The fibula is the lateral bone of the (lower) leg (the tibia is the medial bone).
The fibula articulates:
- with the talus distally, forming the ankle (talocrural) joint.
- with the tibia medially, forming the tibiofibular joints.

NOTES:

The fibula is much smaller than the other bone of the leg, the tibia.
The fibula does not articulate with the femur, and is therefore not involved with the knee joint.
The lateral malleolus of the distal lateral fibula sits lower (more distally) than the medial malleolus of the distal medial tibia. For this reason, from anatomic position, there is far less eversion of the foot than inversion of the foot.
